Biography
Lip-Bu Tan is known for semiconductor venture investing and EDA operating experience: he founded Walden International and spent decades investing across Asia tech, then led Cadence as President & CEO through a period of product and customer expansion in electronic design automation. He previously served on Intel’s board and became CEO in March 2025, publicly shifting strategy from aggressive IDM 2.0 buildout toward customer-commit-driven capacity and tighter financial discipline. His style skews toward capital allocation, customer anchoring, and ecosystem partners (including foundry customers)—a contrast to AMD CEO Lisa Su’s product-cadence / co-design emphasis, and a framing sell-side often uses when comparing the two companies.
